Blu Electronic Cigarettes: An IntroductionMonday, 30 November 2015
Among the many manufacturers out there, some have been around long enough to really take advantage of the wave of popularity that was created when people in North America really took a shine to the alternative method for getting a dose of nicotine. One such company was blu Electronic Cigarettes, who quickly capitalized on the trend with a really accessible line of disposables. Today we’ll be giving all you new vapers an introduction to the company that seems to have a bit of a checkered reputation among seasoned vapers, and that’s putting it lightly.
What Does blu Offer?
blu has a selection of e-cigarettes that does a decent job of covering a vaper from the start of their journey into e-cigs through to the middle of even the end of their journey in some cases.
One place blu really captures possible vapers is with their offering of disposables. These e-cigs are meant to be disposed of the moment they stop providing vapor. Some people like to call these cigalikes and they’re really only meant to give users the basic idea behind vaping. They offer 3 flavors: Cherry Crush, Classic Tobacco, and Magnificent Menthol. This is a decent number of choices for people looking to try out vaping, but the real strength in this product is how widely it’s offered. There’s a really good chance that you’ve seen these e-cigs behind the counter at a lot of gas stations and corner stores. They’ve done a good job of putting themselves where it’s easy for them to be seen by prospective buyers and it’s a great way to get people on the road to ditching analogs.
blu Rechargeable Kits
This is where they start to open up their offering to support vapers as they progress past disposables. The rechargeable kits provide users with batteries, pre-filled atomizer cartridges and a little carrying case that allows them to recharge their batteries. This makes half the unit replaceable and lets vapers get more use from their units. That being said, the type of rechargeable kits they offer are a bit on the confusing side. They provide: the blu Rechargeable Kit, the blu Premium Rechargeable Kit, the blu Premium 100 Rechargeable Kit, and the blu Plus+ Rechargeable Kit. The differences between them differ slightly but the naming conventions are more then enough to make someone who’s new to the experience lost, confused, and more than a little bit frustrated. As a pro tip, you’ll likely be more than happy with the standard rechargeable kit, and if you’re not, you’ll likely be better off moving into e-Go’s and mods.
The blu tanks come in 5 different flavors: Carolina bold, Classic Tobacco, Magnificent Menthol, Cherry Crush, and Vivid Vanilla. These tanks provide more vapor than the flavor cartridges they also offer, a more cigarette-like draw, and in improved throat hit according to blu. These tanks are supposed to be their higher capacity offering, though they do lack in terms of flavors when compared to the flavor cartridges.
What the flavor cartridges lack in their capacity and output, they make up for in the number of flavors offered. They have 7 different flavors including: Classic Tobacco, Magnificent Menthol, Cherry Crush, Vivid Vanilla, Pina Colada, Peach Schnapps, and Java Jolt. With these cartridges, you’ll be less likely to get bored of any one flavor before long.
Why Don’t Many Vapers Like blu?
The problem here is pretty simple. These products may seem more like they cater to beginner and intermediate vapers, but the reality is a different story.
To start out, the vapor production of their disposables, tanks and cartridges are less than impressive for anyone who’s enjoyed more powerful units like the MVP or the EVOD with a standard clearomizer. The vapor from blu’s products are wispy and thin and most people just don’t find it really satisfies their cravings very much.
They really only offer 3 strengths of nicotine – 0% per tank, 1.2% per tank, and 2.4% per tank. This simply isn’t enough of an offering to cater tot he diverse group of vapers out there and isn’t incremental enough to make it suitable for those looking to drop their nicotine intake to nothing.
The experience you get with these e-cigs is pretty much cut and dry. There’s no tailoring it to your own preferences or modifying it to improve on flavor, vapor production or throat hit. You just have to sit back and take what it gives you. If you don’t like it, you’re SOL.
Some of the rechargeable kits will run you about $90! For that you usually only get about 2 batteries, a charger, and about 3-5 tanks. Once you’re done the tanks, you have to buy more at about $12 to $15 for 3 tanks/cartridges. Compared to the price of a brand new mod and some juice, and the fact that you’ll only need to replace the juice and the tank every so often means you’re playing a sucker’s game if you buy the tanks or cartridges and throwing your money away.
Part of what allowed blu to get as big as they are is that they entered the scene very early and were one of the first companies to get into the market. They struck while the iron was hot and now they’re reaping the benefits of exposure and the ignorance of inexperienced vapers. This might not last forever, and hopefully this post will be a step in that direction.
